Delhi Capitals' chase was derailed by the unheralded Kranti Goud, who claimed four wickets for 25 runs. Grace Harris then took charge, securing a stunning hat-trick to extinguish any hopes of a late fightback, bundling Delhi out for 144 in 19.3 overs.
Delhi struggled to build momentum since the beginning of the chase. Skipper Meg Lanning was cleaned up by Goud for 5. Shafali Verma and Alice Capsey fell cheaply, leaving DC reeling at 50/4 inside eight overs.
"I couldn't stop my tears. I have never seen such performance in many years and now I am convinced that this team can bring us the Olympic gold after 44 years," the former India skipper said.
Jemimah Rodrigues led the fightback with a well-compiled 56 off 40 balls, playing an anchor role while wickets kept tumbling at the other end. However, with the required run rate escalating, her dismissal in the 17th over effectively ended Delhi’s hopes.
In their previous meet, Delhi had clinched a commanding seven-wicket win a few days ago but to their credit, UPW produced an all-round performance to record their maiden win in the competition.
The victory lifted UP Warriorz from the bottom of the points table as they moved one place above to get to the fourth. They now have two points from three matches after one win and two defeats.
